  DOZEN or DOZENS?  That little “s” can cause quite a bit of confusion.  Let’s clear up the confusion. Imagine you're at the market and your friend says: ❌ Please buy three dozens of eggs for me. Would you correct them? You should! The standard expression is: ✅ Please buy three dozen eggs for me. Here's why. 📌 WHEN YOU MEAN AN EXACT NUMBER OF TWELVE: DOZEN stays singular after a number. So: ❌ three dozens of eggs ✅ three dozen eggs ❌ five dozens of pencils ✅ five dozen pencils ❌ eight dozens of bottles ✅ eight dozen bottles Why? Because “a dozen” already means TWELVE. So when you say: 👉 three dozen eggs, you mean: 3 × 12 = 36 eggs. The word “dozen” doesn't need an “S”. 🧠 HERE'S THE PART THAT TRIPS PEOPLE UP… “DOZENS” is also correct. Yes! The difference is in the meaning. When “dozens” means a large or unspecified number of people or things, rather than an exact number of groups of twelve, we use the plural form. Have you ever said something in English that sounds perfectly normal until you stop and think about it? Let’s talk about expressions involving facial and body movements. Here’s a common one: ❌ I nodded my head when she asked me. Sounds familiar, right?  But the verb “nod” already means to move your head up and down, usually to show agreement, understanding, or acknowledgement. So, in many situations, you can simply say: ✅ I nodded when she asked me. 📌 WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? This is an example of TAUTOLOGY. Tautology is the unnecessary repetition of an idea because the meaning is already contained in the word or expression you have used. In simple terms:  If the verb has already done the job, let it do the job! For example: ❌ I shrugged my shoulders and walked away. ✅ I shrugged and walked away. ❌ The baby blinked his eyes at the bright light. ✅ The baby blinked at the bright light. ❌ She winked her eye at her friend. ✅ She winked at her friend. ❌ The little boy smiled his face...
